At one point in time or another, every pool owner has noticed a slimy green growth slowly taking over their pool. With the right conditions, algae can appear almost overnight. Unfortunately there are number of different types of conditions that are considered to be perfect for rapid algae growth, including water that is out of balance, warm temperatures, specific types of nitrates or carbon dioxide being present in the water, poor circulation, and even sun light.

But what, exactly, is algae? Algae is actually a living aquatic creature and is one of the few organisms that can be found all around the world. Like a plant, algae utilizes photosynthesis in order to grow, but unlike many plants it can grow in an extremely rapid manner.

When algae starts to take over your pool you will quickly find that no one wants to go in the water anymore. Algae can color and cloud the water and while it is not harmful to someone who is swimming, it definitely has a certain “ick” factor to it. But the most frustrating part about dealing with an algae infestation is that it can be extremely difficult to get rid of thoroughly.

There are number of different types of algae – in fact there are actually 21,000 known varieties of algae. To simplify things, however, a pool cleaner is likely to refer to the algae based on what color the algae happens to be, for instance green algae, yellow algae, black algae, and pink algae. Each one has their own specific characteristics, and many times a pool cleaning service will need to use different methods to get rid of each type.

At Serenity Pool Care, we know how frustrating dealing with algae can be, which is why we offer algae treatments. Our algae treatments work to prevent algae from taking over your pool, and we are also trained and experienced in helping to rid you pool of algae should this pesky organism take over.
