One of the biggest questions that we get asked is why someone should look to hire a pool cleaner who is certified. After all if you hire someone to clean your home you likely do not look for them to have certification, do you? Why, then, would you want to make sure that your pool cleaner is certified, and what type of certification can a pool cleaner get?
CPO
It may surprise you to know that pool cleaners actually can get certified. The course is called a Certified Pool Operator program, or CPO. A CPO is offered through the National Swimming Pool Foundation in various locations around the country, which means that no matter where your pool cleaner lives (or lived), they should be able to have access to a CPO program.
A CPO program delivers training to pool cleaners in order to make sure that they know everything that they can about not only cleaning, but maintaining a pool. The instructors who teach a CPO program are extensively trained and they pass their knowledge onto the students who take the program.
A CPO is a two day class resulting in 14 – 16 hours of training. This type of certification teaches your pool cleaner how to not only properly clean your pool, but also how to test and balance the chemicals, how to deal with automatic feeding equipment, what government requirements are, and much more. And because the certification is only valid for five years, any pool cleaners who are certified know only the newest and best information available.
